Schlegel specializes in the development of "perfect fit" light seals. Urethane foam is extruded, molded and clad in vinyl film to produce a durable, resilient light-tight seal that can withstand continuous use and retain its original shape. Schlegel light seals are frequently called upon in manufacturing film and plate processors and phototypesetters.

Schlegel quality components are currently found in:

  • Cameras
  • Color separators
  • Phototypesetters
  • Film Processors
  • Electronic & Conventional Plate Processors
  • Presses
  • Duplicators
  • Folding Equipment
  • Dust Removal Systems
  • Collators & Sorters

Schlegel engineers design unique combinations of textiles, rubber, foam and metal. We maintain complete control over advanced technologies of weaving, knitting, extruding and finishing systems for die cutting, hole punching and specialty adhesion to produce quality parts that fit any design configuration.

Light sealing
Light sealing is among the most difficult of sealing functions. Schlegel has two product groups that address this challenge. Urethane foam seals are extruded, molded and clad in vinyl film to produce durable, resilient light-seals in film and plate processors and phototypesetters. Specially woven pile fabrics are also commonly used around a light-tight door, in a cassette, or at film developing and transfer stations.

Film and Paper Transport
Film and Paper Transport is involved in almost all stages of a printing process, and Schlegel  can provide a motion control product for every stage. TeflonŽ fiber plush pile is a high lubricity, abrasion-resistant fabric which allows film to move freely while shielding it from a machine's internal mechanism. As a result, this fabric makes a highly protective covering for rollers and housings as well as a dependable transport belts for safe, smooth movement of film materials. Monofilament BRISTLEPILE fabric is available either in angled sections or in continuous length belts and provides maximum control for positioning and movement of paper or plastic in presses, folders and sorters.

Static Dissipation
Static dissipation is handled by LECTRA-CON conductants, These very conductive, diversified pile assemblies are capable of dissipating up to 99% of a surface static charge. And they are designed to maintain this level of performance for the life of the equipment with virtually no maintenance. Ultra-thin filament diameters produce a soft abrasion-resistant pile fabric, suitable for use in film processors, phototypesetters as well as presses, folding machines and paper and envelope sorters. In addition to fabrics, conductive rubber and plastic materials are also available. Schlegel can supply LECTRA-CON conductants in continuous lengths of pile fabric or in convenient brush assemblies.

Scrubbing and Cleaning
Scrubbing and cleaning are recognized by Schlegel as important functions in pre-press photographic processes. That's why we've developed a special line of textile cleaning products. These products are used to remove water and chemicals from the delicate surfaces of film and photosensitive plates. Fibers are carefully chosen to meet customer specifications. Custom blends of yarns and fabrics are available in a variety of mountings including flat strips, spiral brushes and sweeps with metal or plastic roll formed backings. Only contamination-resistant yarns are used and careful control of our pile weaving process ensures a uniform product and consistent quality.
