Case Study: Restrictor Stay (Brisbane)

Case Study: Restrictor Stay (Brisbane)

Posted on 2/06/2015

Project: Infinity Apartments

Location: Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

The Infinity Apartments are a 72 level complex located on Herschel St CBD Brisbane.  This building is a combination of owner occupied and serviced apartments. Schlegel was invited to design a restrictor stay that would retrofit into existing Awning Sashes. After 18 months of Research and Development the design brief required 3 key elements.

  • Restrict windows to 125mm to meet the requirements of the BCA.

  • The restrictor had to have the ability to stay open under heavy wind load and able to accommodate sashes 0-50 kgs

  • Retrofit to existing windows that had been installed 2 years previously

The new Schlegel Restrictor Stay was custom made to meet all of the above requirements. Made from polished 304 stainless steel, the SRS incorporates a unique gearing device that can be factory set (torque) to meet site specific wind load and sash weight requirements. Bespoke fixing plates allowed for easy onsite fitment and engineered stay arms ensured we met the 125mm restriction requirements.
