About us: Schlegel is a global manufacturer of high-performance weatherseal products for windows and doors. We produce foam, brush piles and extruded seals for timber, aluminium and uPVC applications, serving fenestration manufacturers, fabricators and specifiers across Europe, Oceania, North America and Latin America. Our European manufacturing and R&D operations are based in the UK, at Newton Aycliffe and Henlow.

Early 1900s
Schlegel develops the first woven pile weatherstrips for revolving doors, initially manufactured from wool.
1960s
Schlegel introduces a continuous moulded urethane process for foam weatherstripping, a first in the industry.
Late 1960s
Polypropylene replaces wool in pile seals; a centre fin is added, producing the FIN-SEAL weatherstrip range.
1988
Schlegel expands to manufacturing facilities in twelve countries, covering windows, doors and the automotive sector.
2006
Schlegel Building Products acquired by Lupus Capital, with UK manufacturing retained at Henlow and Newton Aycliffe.
2013
Lupus Capital rebrands to Tyman plc, a dedicated international building products supplier listed on the London Stock Exchange.
2024
Quanex Building Products Corporation (NYSE: NX) acquires Tyman, bringing Schlegel into a global group operating across more than 60 manufacturing sites.
Today
Schlegel operates its European HQ in the UK, with sites in Newton Aycliffe and Henlow, plus facilities in Australia (Perth and Sydney). The Americas is serviced by Quanex directly. Schlegel holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications and manufactures Q-LON, the original high-performance composite gasket, used in timber, aluminium and uPVC windows and doors worldwide.
