Creating a culture of Sustainability
Across all Quanex brands, safety is our number one operational priority. Proudly ISO45001-certified, Schlegel fosters a healthy, safe workplace that helps enable long-term business resilience. Sustainability is also central to Schlegel’s role within the Quanex mission, shaping how we design and manufacture. We focus on improving fenestration energy efficiency through high-performance sealing solutions, reducing carbon emissions and advancing sustainable manufacturing and construction practices.
Decarbonisation
Schlegel is progressing its decarbonisation strategy by reducing scope 1 and 2 CO₂ and Greenhouse gas emissions across operations, achieving 89% reductions since 2022. With a baselined carbon footprint aligned to the Quanex sustainability plan, and 100% renewable electricity supplied to all Schlegel sites, we are driving validated long-term environmental impact reduction.
Continuous improvement
Schlegel’s UK sites have achieved 9 and 6 years respectively without a Lost Time Accident (LTA), reflecting a strong Health and Safety culture built on continuous training and proactive risk management. This commitment helps protect our colleagues and ensures everyone returns home safely each day.
Our sustainability commitment is strengthened through globally recognised external assessments and continuous improvement frameworks. Schlegel is an EcoVadis Committed badge holder, a globally recognized platform that assesses and rates the sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) performance of businesses. Partnerships like this support ongoing progress in responsible manufacturing, supply chain transparency, and environmental performance across the value chain.
Product Management
Schlegel tackles sustainability across two primary fronts – manufacturing processes, and product design and performance in context.
We’re developing Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for key products, to transparently communicate environmental footprints across their entire life cycle. This aids regulatory compliance, specification, and identification of opportunities for impact reduction.
Schlegel products play a crucial function enhancing U-values and thermal efficiency in windows, doors and other product categories, facilitating the reduction of CO2 and GHG emissions in homes and buildings.
Process Management
As an International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 9001 and 14001 certified manufacturer, Schlegel adheres to strict, externally audited frameworks for ensuring consistent quality, process efficiency and waste reduction to minimise operational environmental impact. Our products also comply with both Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) and Restriction of Hazardous Substances (Rohs) requirements.
Community Engagement
Schlegel partners with local academy UTC South Durham to support Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, helping inspire the next generation of engineers and innovators. Through hands-on engagement and sponsorship, the business strengthens community ties while promoting skills development aligned with future industry needs and sustainable manufacturing careers.
Governance
Schlegel, part of Quanex, aligns with the globally recognised Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework to strengthen climate risk management and improve disclosure transparency. This voluntary approach supports regulatory readiness, enhances governance, and ensures credible sustainability reporting, helping prevent greenwashing while enabling informed, long-term environmental and financial decision-making.
